I K B. Draayer do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the
Report or Manifest subscr? with my name, and now delivered by
me to the Collector of the District of Philadelphia, contains,
to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account
of all the passengers which were on board the ship Schooner Bond
at the time of her sailing from the port of Amsterdam or which
have been taken on board at any time since; that I am at present
and have been during the voyage, master of the said vessel. And
I do likewise swear that all matters whatsoever in the said Report
or Manifest, are to the best of my knowledge and belief, just
and true. SO HELP ME GOD. Sworn before me, this 31st* day of July
1832 Collector (signed) John Ken??y (signed) B. Draijer*
REPORT OR MANIFEST of all the Passengers taken on board the ship
Schooner Bond whereof K. B. Draayer is Master, from Amsterdam
bur? Tons, and owned by (left blank) of (left blank) and bound
to Philadelphia.
Columns represent: "Names, Age, Sex, Occupation, To what
Country belonging, Country of which it is their intention to become
Inhabitants, Number and Names of Passengers w? died on the voyage."
In the age column, Jaar is Dutch for years, weeken for weeks and
Maan for months. The Sex column is also in Dutch: Man is man,
Vrouw is woman or wife, Meisje is girl, Jongen is boy. Some men
or women (over 20 years old) are also listed as Jongen and Meisje,
by which we can assume they are unmarried. "Farmers, Mechanics
& Labourers" was written down the "Occupation"
column for all on board. The "To what Country belonging"
column listed "Wurtenburg" for all passengers. The "Country
of which it is their intention to become inhabitants" column
showed "U. States" for all passengers. A break between
the lines shows where one page ends and the next begins.
1 J. E. Northard 41 Jaar man
2 C. Koppendink Northard 38 Jaar Vrouw
3 Louisa / Kind* Northard 10 Jaar Meisje
4 Carolina Kind Northard 8 1/2 Jaar Meisje
5 Christian Kind Northard 5 Jaar Jongen
6 Heinrich Kind Northard 3 Jaar Jongen
On the first page, someone has written in large, modern-style
block
letters [SCH. VERBOND, AMSTERDAM, JULY 28, 1832]. Therefore this
ship
may be listed in other places as "Verbond". However,
in the original
manifest it is only found as "ship Schooner Bond". The
"3" of 31st could
have been misread as a "2". Although the second digit
of the date "31st"
is unclear, I am quite certain it is a 1 (one), supported by the
"st"
following it.
